Animal tests & Covid-19
Read our new briefing paper
Today we are publishing our new Cruelty Free Europe briefing paper on animal tests and Covid-19.
We want to see a safe and speedy vaccine for Covid-19 using non-animal scientific methods related directly to the disease in humans. To do this we need global, regional and national coordination and more funding directed specifically at new approach methodologies.
Sadly, the race to find a Covid-19 vaccine will inevitably involve a significant number of animal tests on mice, rats, hamsters, cats, guinea pigs, ferrets and monkeys.
There is a real risk that rather than helping us, these tests will instead mislead researchers, with good vaccines and treatments possibly disregarded as ineffective and potentially harmful vaccines progressing to human trials on the back of unreliable animal tests.
Now, perhaps more than ever, it is vital to consider the quality and humaneness of our science.
